Grohman Narrows Provincial Park
Grohman Narrows Park is day use park located 5 kms west of Nelson on Hwy 3A. It protects the sensitive habitat of several plants and animals while providing visitors with some views of Kootenay River, Narrows Island and Grohman Narrows. The area provides for nature appreciation with low impact walking trails that meander along the meadow and marshland area then continue to wind through the forest. The area is very active with school groups in the spring and dog walkers year round. There is an abundance of Saskatoon berries in mid to end of July all through the trail system.
Natural & Cultural Values
The area protects special habitat of several species of plants, animals, insects and Painted Turtles. A small island contains a stand of old growth black cottonwood that provide habitat for many birds.
The park was created in May 1981 through the efforts and wishes of the Donna and Wilbert Anderson of Nelson, B.C. and is named after William Adolf Baillie Grohman… a Kootenay pioneer.
There are no services at this park with the exception of two picnic tables and a bench situated along the meadow trail.
